Đerdap Gorge

If we should mention only one thing that is worth coming to Serbia for, it is nature. Certain parts of Serbia are truly fantastic, have an exceptional nature and offer visitors a million-dollar view.

Only a small part of the destinations that are certainly known to everyone are Uvac, Đerdap Gorge, Devil's Town, and Ovčar-Kablar Gorge, but we should not omit numerous lakes, and caves, special reserves and protected areas.

It is not even easy to list all these destinations that are amazing and worth admiring.

Yes, indeed, some destinations are still undiscovered, insufficiently promoted, or whatever. But, if you just start driving through Serbia, you will understand what we are talking about.

Therefore, start a new adventure in Serbia as soon as possible, and you may discover some new unusual and unreal places.

If the pictures of Uvac and Đerdap are known all over the world, then in the food category it would certainly be pečenje, ćevapi, Karadjordjeva steak, sarma, greaves, "komplet lepinja", “peglana” sausage, proja, ajvar, gibanica, kajmak, or vanilice, orasnice, or slatko from the sweets subcategory.

Of course, as with natural beauties, Serbian food is very diverse, from north to south, east and west, so you should not limit yourself to this tiny piece that we mentioned here.

There is still a lot to try and love. But, to be able to do something like that, you have to travel through Serbia, reach almost every part of the country, because each is different in its own way and brings completely different dishes and tastes.

The monasteries of Serbia are the best that our country has to offer and there is no doubt about that.

Whether you are a domestic tourist or a foreigner, monasteries offer a unique way to connect with the soul of our people.

If you visit only one monastery, regardless of whether it is from the Middle Ages or some recent times and centuries, you will realize that the connection between history, religion and culture among the Serbian people is incredibly great.

Simply, monasteries are extremely important, because if they weren't here in certain times, which, to say the least, were not easy, there would probably be no Serbia or Serbian people today.

However, monasteries and churches should not be viewed as a tourist attractions, because they simply are not, nor will they ever be. When you come, try to come as an ordinary person, not as a tourist.

Because of everything we have said, monasteries are special holy places that you simply must see, at least some of them, because they carry almost the entire history of Serbia if you just look a little deeper.

4. Historic sites

Lepenski Vir

History is another segment in which Serbia is enormously rich. The area surrounded by the borders of Serbia has been inhabited since prehistory, more than 8000 years ago.

It is enough to mention Lepenski Vir, Vinča, or Starčevo, and you can immediately understand that civilization reached these parts long before some other parts of the world.

However, not only prehistory has left its mark in Serbia. The Romans also played a significant role. Today, on the territory of Serbia, there is a large number of cultural heritage left behind by the mighty Rome, and only some of them are Viminacium, Naisus, Mediana, Justiniana Prima, Felix Romuliana, Sirmium, and of course Singidunum.

However, a special part of history that should always be explored is Serbian history. From north to south, there are numerous places and localities of great importance in our history and worth visiting. Only some of them are located in or around Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kruševac, Kragujevac, Niš, Smederevo, Prizren, and so on.

5. Festivals and events

The list of 5 reasons why you should travel to Serbia this year is completed by festivals and events.

Regardless of whether it is a gastronomic event, music, cultural-traditional, or someone else, Serbia is a place of events throughout the year. Whichever period you decide is the right time to travel, there is a high probability that an event is taking place in some city, village, mountain...
